Who is eligible to apply for the Todd Mezrah Scholarship?

Any student who is currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited U.S. college or university is eligible to apply. We welcome students from all majors and fields of study. You must be attending a college or university within the United States (you do not have to be a U.S. citizen, as long as you are studying in the U.S.). High school students who have not yet begun their undergraduate studies are not eligible. (If you are a high school senior already taking college courses or officially enrolled in a college program, you would qualify.)

Is the Todd Mezrah Scholarship need-based or merit-based?

The Todd Mezrah Scholarship is merit-based. The selection is primarily based on the strength of your essay and the content of your application. We are looking for insight, originality, and alignment with the essay prompts (leadership, initiative, community impact, etc.). While we understand financial need is important, this scholarship does not require you to demonstrate financial need; all decisions are made based on merit as demonstrated in the application.

What is the application deadline and timeline?

The application deadline is June 1 of each year. All application materials (including your essay) must be submitted by that date. After the deadline, the scholarship committee begins reviewing applications. The winner of the Todd Mezrah Scholarship is typically announced by mid-July (around July 15). We will notify the selected student directly via email and also announce the winner publicly on our website. If any timeline changes occur for a given year, we will update the dates on this site accordingly.

How will I be notified if I win, and what happens if I am selected?

The scholarship recipient will be notified directly through the email provided in their application. We will send an official congratulatory email with instructions on next steps to claim the scholarship. Additionally, we may call the winner or send a letter to the provided mailing address as a follow-up. Once notified, the winner may be asked to provide proof of enrollment (such as a copy of a student ID or enrollment verification) to finalize the award. We will then coordinate the disbursement of the $1,000 prize either by sending a check to the winner or arranging payment through the winner’s college financial aid office. We will also announce the winner’s name on the Todd Mezrah Scholarship website (and potentially on social media or press releases) to celebrate their achievement.

Can I apply more than once or in multiple years?

If you are not selected as the scholarship recipient this year, you are welcome to apply again in the next scholarship cycle, as long as you still meet the eligibility requirements. Many students continue to develop their leadership experiences and goals over time, so we encourage you to try again with a fresh essay in future years. However, note that each applicant can submit only one application per year. Submitting multiple entries in the same cycle will not increase your chances and may result in disqualification. If you have already won the Todd Mezrah Scholarship in a previous year, you are no longer eligible to apply again, as we aim to support a new student each year.

Is there any cost to apply for the Todd Mezrah Scholarship?

No, there is no application fee or any cost to apply. This scholarship is completely free to enter. Just ensure you submit your application by the deadline. (Beware of any scams – the Todd Mezrah Scholarship will never ask for payment or sensitive financial information from applicants.)

Do I need to submit transcripts, recommendation letters, or other documents?

No additional documents are required beyond the online application form and your essay. We do not ask for academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, or test scores as part of the application. The process is designed to be simple: your essay and the information you provide in the form are sufficient for our evaluation. If you are selected as the winner, we will request proof of enrollment at that time, but not during the initial application.

How can the scholarship funds be used?

The $1,000 award is meant to support your education-related expenses. In most cases, the funds can be used toward tuition costs, mandatory fees, textbooks, supplies, or other expenses directly tied to your education. If the funds are disbursed through your university’s financial aid office, they will typically apply it to your tuition or fees. If given directly to you, we trust that you will use the funds responsibly for your education (for example, purchasing books, a required laptop, or other materials you need for school). The scholarship is a one-time award and is not renewable for subsequent years.

What are the selection criteria for choosing the winner?

The winner is selected based on several criteria:

  • Essay Quality: We evaluate the essay for originality, clarity of thought, relevance to the chosen prompt, and the personal insights or experiences shared. A compelling story or a well-articulated plan can make an essay stand out.

  • Relevance to Values: We look for alignment with the values emphasized by the Todd Mezrah Scholarship, such as leadership, initiative, innovation, and community impact. Your essay should touch on these themes as prompted.

  • Application Completeness: Applicants must follow all instructions (correct word count, submitted by deadline, all form fields completed, essay in PDF format, etc.). An application that is complete and well-prepared shows us that you are diligent and serious about the opportunity.

  • Authenticity: We are looking for genuine voices. Essays that appear to be plagiarized or written by someone else (or AI) will be disqualified. We want to hear your own thoughts and experiences.

 

There is no bias toward any particular major or school. Every eligible application is reviewed fairly by the scholarship committee. The decision of the committee is final.
